Shortly after that, I jumped back into my standard routine of exercise and healthy eating. It worked for a little while but then it all came to a halt when I entered my early 40s. I kept thinking: ‘How could I be doing all the things that worked for me before (pre and post-pregnancy), but now I actually felt bigger, slower, and weaker.

 

I felt exhausted all the time, my knees and back started to ache and my patience for just about everything was wearing thin. My body was trying to tell me something, but my mind couldn’t comprehend or was too tired even care.  Even as a devoted health and wellness expert and former professional athlete I knew I had hit a wall.

Women over 40 Need To Know This:  The 3 biggest myths that cause your metabolism to become fat loss resistant are:

Myth 1 – We need to count calories to lose fat

Calories are important.  But something else comes first.

If you eat and absorb a ton more than you use, then your body’s wisdom will store some for later. 

On the other hand, if you don't consume enough calories throughout the day your body doesn’t understand and thinks it is being deprived of energy for day-to-day survival functions....  so it will also store everything for later.  

Calories do matter.

But, they are not the “be-all and end-all" of fat loss; It is best to look at the quality of calories, the timing of those calories an how it affects our overall system as we age.

Myth 2 – I can muscle through hormones

Right away when you are not getting results you look at what are you doing wrong.  Am I eating the wrong things?…. and am I suppose to eating more of this?   You analyze and try to fix.  

That is 100% normal because the diet industry has ingrained that ‘fix it quick’ / ‘change that behaviour’ mentality in us.  

When your fat / metabolic hormones are wonky and not properly controlled like when you are limiting your calories / or working out longer….

.... then your metabolism starts shutting doors to preserve energy.  This, in turn, will reduce and even eliminate any believed benefits of ‘dieting for fat loss”
